About Folly Photos

“I love good music and I love spending time outdoors, particularly by water.”  This I told my then-future husband during our very first telephone conversation. This statement describes how I’ve chosen to live and where I find beauty.  As a teenager, my family contemplated moving south from Michigan.  I studied the map and fixed my sights on a barrier island.  And here, on a barrier island, I spend time outdoors, by the water.  I live on Folly Beach.

Beauty surrounds us here.  Sometimes the details distract me.  On my walks, my eyes capture the beauty of a shell, a stone, a leaf, a wave breaking; maybe the iridescent ocean that a magical sunset creates. When working to create your portraits, I focus on finding these special details.  It might be capturing the compelling sparkle of one’s eye, the grin on one’s lips, the sand on a baby’s foot, or the gnarled grain of driftwood contrasting with the fresh face of youth.  I get wrapped up in a baby’s smile, a puppy’s romp, or a bride beaming at her groom. The happy color splash of a bridesmaid’s dress set in front of a deep blue sky with striking white clouds and sea gulls soaring into view makes my heart sing. There can be no better inspiration for me than capturing the beauty of this place and the people that grace its shores.

Being on Folly Beach encourages us to slow down and see the beauty.  It is by finding and being in this special place that gives us the opportunity to create a truly special portrait.

As the sign says, “Relax, slow down, it’s Folly.”  See the beauty and let me help capture it.
