Listen up guys. This is how Aaron pulled off a fantastic wedding proposal. First of all, where and when better to take that plunge than on a sunset stroll on Folly Beach or Morris Island. Aaron perfectly planned and executed his proposal. Paying attention to the tide, he took driftwood and shells he previously collected and spelled out the proposal earlier in the afternoon.

He told his soon to me fiance that they would be having dinner later with business colleagues. This gave Whitney an opportunity to look polished for those surprise photos he planned for this moment.

They walked down the beach and came across the message on the shore. Surprised, Whitney turned to Aaron, finding him down on one knee asking for her hand.

How romantic! She had no idea that I was taking pictures from behind a walkover. What a thrill to share this moment with them.

Aaron revealed my presence to his new fiance and we shot some very special portraits.

It was a great end to my day and a new beginning for theirs. Congratulations Whitney and Aaron!!!!

I recently had the opportunity to work (or should I say play) with a very cool couple and their dog Sookie. Distanced from family, they thought that photos would make an awesome gift.

As it worked out, their favorite place to play is my favorite place to shoot. We met late in the afternoon to take advantage of the light and the low tide.

We started with a dressier wardrobe. They told me they had not modeled before but I had a hard time believing it. The camera loved these two.

After a quick change, we moved from the beach end of the island to the inlet side to take advantage of Folly’s own boneyard beach. Lighthouse Inlet has steadily migrated southwest for at least 150 years allowing saltwater intrusion into the oaks closest to the water. The trees die from the lack of freshwater. The sun, wind and salt air bleach them out over time, creating what we call a bone yard beach. Which makes for some very interesting images.

Sookie, much like a toddler, was in constant motion. We managed to corral her for a few images and the others were caught on the fly. It’s not for everyone but this couple was up to climbing trees, scaling rocks, and wading in the ocean in November. They had fun, I had fun and the pictures show it.

We played (worked) together for over an hour and finished up the shoot just as the sun set behind the dunes – perfect timing and a perfect afternoon on Folly Beach.
